Madison (Maddy) Ash Lignell was an active part of the Boulder community from his preschool days at the Boulder JCC, and at Mesa, Southern Hills and Fair view High. Always the kid with the biggest grin, the most inventive ideas and a sunny, optimistic attitude. Maddy loved school, worked hard and was exuberant with teachers and classmates alike. He might be best known for his long involvement in wrestling, star ting at Southern Hills, with Boulder United and then at Fair view. As a freshman, he was the lightest varsity wrestler, under- weight in the 98lb class, and usually chowing down burgers before weigh- ins. He was a dedicated team player and competitive athlete whose soaring path was cut short by concussions in his senior year.

Maddy went on to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where he is remembered by faculty as an enthusiastic, fun- loving, creative Mechanical Engineer. He interned for Northrop, Apple and Spacex, where he landed a very competitive position after college, building and testing Falcon 9 rocket engines. He was a beloved team leader with hundreds of friends and colleagues all over the world. Beyond work, he thrived in the outdoors: camping, climbing, hiking, skiing, scuba- diving & riding his motorcycle. Maddy died by suicide in the early morning of May 15, 2021, after a sudden, unexpected and intense mental health crisis that came on in just a few short days.

He was the light of our lives, and is loved beyond measure by his parents Jordana Ash and Oliver Lignell, two older sisters, Shayna Trujillo ( Pavel) and Hanna Lignell, and adored by his extended family and everyone who ever has the good fortune of meeting him. Maddy was one of the most generous people on this earth, joyful and deeply motivated to change the world for the better. Our hearts are forever broken. Please join Maddy's family and friends for a hike in his honor and gathering at his home in Boulder on June 25th, 2022. We will meet at the Shanahan Ridge Trail ( Lehigh

Trailhead) at 9:45 am on Saturday, June

25th, 2022 to hike together in open space where Maddy worked and played. Following the hike, at 12pm, everyone is invited to gather at Maddy's family home to eat, drink, and share in our love for Maddy.
