Tegan Barrier, who despite dealing with a cramp in his foot, per Raskay, touched first.

The elusive title followed Raskay’s runner-up swims in the 50 freestyle, the 100 butterfly and the 200 medley relay.

It was the Bocopreps area’s first boys swim title since 2019 when Lukas Miller won two for Legacy and Max Kreidl won another for Boulder.

It was the first relay title in its program history, per coach Leigh Dodd.

“It’s been a long time” waiting, Raskay said. “Ever since I was a freshman seeing all those guys up on the podium. It’s an awesome moment with the guys and the huge stands and everyone cheering.”

The overall meet served as another rung upward for Legacy, which followed up its program-best fourth place finish at the girls’ state meet with the boys’ best mark of third.

White and Barrier added individual medals in the 200 IM and 50 freestyle, and the 400 free relay finished the meet with a bronze.

Regis Jesuit won with 467 points, followed by Cherry Creek with 403. The Lightning, who had six medalists and 10 top-10 times, finished with 295.50.

“Our hardest workers are the guys in lane one and lane two,” Dodd said. “They’re the ones who show up every day and really put in the effort. They help push the guys who are in the next lane up and let our top-end guys know they’re not the only ones who have to carry this team.”

Elsewhere, Monarch finished inside the top 10 for the first time since 2013, taking eighth.

Led by a pair of freshmen, the Coyotes collected four top-eight finishes. Gavin Keogh was sixth in the 100 backstroke and Ethan Difronzo seventh in the 50 freestyle. Difronzo was also a part of the 200 freestyle relay that placed fifth and both freshmen were on the 400 free relay that took seventh.

Fairview took 13th, led by sophomore Layton Sealman. Embracing the end of his night with a pair of pinktinted sunglasses, he talked about overcoming a mental barrier to nab two top-four finishes, taking third in the 100 freestyle and fourth in the 100 breaststroke.

“Right before the (100 freestyle), I was telling people I was feeling really awful and I was about to swim really slow,” he said with a smile. “But the last 25 yards

I saw (Heritage’s) Garrett Gurley next to me in lane eight, and I saw him in front of me and said, ‘I can’t let him beat me.’ So, I stepped on the gas and somehow ended up going third.”

Boulder finished 24th on the back of Teagan Mayer, who was 10th in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke.

COLORADO SPRINGS — On the strength of a state championship from the No. 4 doubles team of Kylie Horning and Alesandra Wise, the Holy Family girls tennis team placed in a tie for third as a team at the Class 3A state championships in Colorado Springs after Saturday’s final day of action.

The Tigers scored 37 points to knot Colorado Academy’s output, while D’evelyn won the team championship with 89 points followed by St. Mary’s in second place.

Horning and Wise paired together for a 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) win over D’evelyn’s Mariah Dean and Kate Davis to become just the third Tigers team to win a state title, according to Hfathletics.com’s Jon Yunt. Also, they were the first to net gold since Ciara Donovan and Lexi Licata won the No. 1 doubles championship in 2018.

“That was a team that we weren’t even sure was going to make Varsity 1 when we started, but they just kept learning and fighting and getting better as team,” head coach John Alderman told Yunt on the school’s athletic site. “I just can’t say enough about what they did today.

“Both girls just fought hard and they embraced our system and the plan. The deserve all the credit.”

The Tigers also had another doubles team in the championship match, as Clara Meisner and Sarah Stonehocker cruised to Saturday’s finals with three straight-sets wins. However, D’evelyn’s Anna Day and Maria Christoffersen were right on this day, winning 63, 6-1.

Holy Family saw points scored in all positions but 3 singles, after scoring 14 points last season and also finishing fourth.

Dawson’s Travis places third

Losing a three-set thriller against eventual state champion Ellie Hartman of St. Mary’s on Friday, Dawson’s Lila Travis didn’t let that derail her state championship experience in 2022. On Saturday, she managed to rebound in the third-place match and beat St. Mary’s Academy’s Ellie White 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 to cap her career on a high note.

In 2021, Travis also made the semifinals but because of the tournament’s singleelimination format she did not get a chance to play further in play-backs.

Peak performances

Peak to Peak’s sixth-place team finish was furnished by three lines and was led by the runner-up performance from 2 doubles combo Maya Natarajan and Peyton Larsen. The pair battled through two three-set victories before matching up against D’evelyn’s Cheranne Wang and Maisy Schoeman, and that Jaguars duo proved almost flawless in a fourth consecutive two-set victory at the tournament, 6-2, 6-1.
