Singer appointed to be policy liaison
Former state rep will work with government groups
The Boulder Chamber of Commerce is welcoming a new teammate who will bring experience in creating policy and working with the government.
Jonathan Singer, a former state representative and Longmont resident, was selected to be the chamber’s newest senior director of policy programs.
The announcement was shared Thursday in a Boulder Chamber news release. The nonprofit described the role of senior director of policy programs as a liaison to government bodies. Singer will help to address individual business needs by connecting with policy leaders and educating them on the role of a strong economy, environmental stewardship, social equity and quality life goals.
In a phone interview Thursday, Singer said Boulder has always been “at the center of my heart.” He said the chamber’s commitment to building community through open and honest conversation matches his own values and that he will strive to continue that mission.
“I always like to tell people, let’s start with what we agree on and see how far we get,” Singer said in the news release.
“We can agree that a strong, innovative economy is pivotal to a thriving community. The Boulder Chamber understands that relationships with local government can forge paths of understanding based on this goal. And I am excited to be in a space where we can work on policies that foster an ideal business environment.”
John Tayer, Boulder Chamber president and CEO, said there’s a lot he’s looking forward to in working with Singer.
“I know he has a great heart for our community and brings a collaborative spirit,” Tayer said in a phone interview.
Tayer described Singer as someone who will “vigorously” represent business interest while balancing the harmony of social equity and environmental issues. He said he looks forward to the “great wisdom and policy programs and implementation” that Singer will bring to the team.
“He recognizes strong businesses and vital economy are critical to maintain a fully healthy community,” Tayer said.
Singer represented northern and western Boulder County as a Colorado State House representative from 2012 to 2020. Throughout that time, he chaired the Local Government Committee and the Public Healthcare and Human
Services Committees.
According to the release, he authored and passed more than 100 bills that touched on a range of issues from preventing wage theft to reducing and eliminating tax liabilities for those who lost property. He also worked with local communities on energy policies as the executive director at the League of Oil and Gas Impacted Coloradans.
Tayer said the chamber is fortunate to have Singer join the team.
“Jonathan recognizes that the welfare of our entire community is at the core of our Boulder Chamber mission, with a vital economy as a critical pillar,” Tayer said in the release.
“His strategic policy mind and understanding of economic issues, coupled with a heart for collaborative problem solving, are a perfect fit with the character of our successful business interest advocacy.”
