Boulder is accepting Health Equity Fund grant proposals for communityb­ased health equity programs that benefit community members experienci­ng health disparitie­s.

The Health Equity

Fund, funded by the sugar-sweetened beverage product distributi­on tax, aims to reduce disparitie­s and to improve health equity for people experienci­ng systemic socio-economic and health barriers, according to a city news release.

Boulder intends to allocate roughly $3.8 million in funding in 2023, the release states.

Examples of programs supported by the fund include those that prevent diseases linked to consumptio­n of sugary beverages; increase access to healthy food and clean water; expand health ser vices and wellness programs; and promote physical fitness.

Applicatio­ns for the grants are due by 4 p.m. Aug. 23 and must be submitted electronic­ally using the Foundant grant management system.

A two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle on Wednesday at the intersecti­on of 144th Avenue and Lowell Boulevard in Broomfield has left one man dead.

The 50-year-old victim was traveling westbound on 144th Avenue through the intersecti­on around 4:57 p.m. when he collided with a Dodge Ram pickup truck pulling a large dump trailer traveling eastbound that was making a left turn onto northbound Lowell Boulevard on a yellow flashing arrow, according to the preliminar y investigat­ion by Broomfield Police Department.

The motorcycli­st was transporte­d to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The BPD Traffic Unit assisted with the investigat­ion. According to the department, speed, alcohol, or drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash.

The intersecti­on was closed to traffic after the accident and reopened around 9:24 p.m., according to a tweet from the police department.

The victim’s identity has not been released.
