Sugarloaf Road to close at set times starting Friday

-

Sugarloaf Road will be closed during certain hours between Colo. 119 and Betasso Road starting Friday.

According to a news release, the road will be closed from 9:30 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Sugarloaf Road will remain open with a single lane during all other hours.

When the road is open, expect flaggers during daytime working hours, and the use of traffic signals outside working hours.

Closures will occur through Sept. 9, weather permitting. The west end of Sugarloaf Road at Colo. 72 will remain open throughout.

Crews will close the road for two 2.5-hour increments. During the 20 days of closure, crews will build retaining walls to support the road.

The closure will expedite the work needed to complete the walls, according to the news release.

The contractor had planned to use the uphill travel lane; however, it became unstable and had to be removed for safety. Now that one lane is no longer available, they will use the remaining lane to complete construction.

Sugarloaf Fire and the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office are aware of the closures.

Emergency crews will have immediate access at all times and the roadway will be cleared should an area evacuation is necessary.

Should weather, supply issues or equipment problems interrupt daily operations, the roadway will be opened to a single lane, according to the release.
