Sanford (Sandy) Rothman

November 1, 1946 - December 1, 2022

-

When Sandy could no longer enjoy a cup of coffee and a slice of sour cherry pie, he realized that his almost three-year scuffle with multiple myeloma was not going as he had hoped. Sanford Barry Rothman was born November 1,1946 to Rose and Max. He and his sister, Lynn, were raised in Brooklyn and Queens New York. His lifelong love of the outdoors began with many family summers spent in the Catskill Mountains. This led to his passion for the outdoors from fishing the Boundary Waters to Ride the Rockies and countless hunting trips that were mostly about "taking his gun for a walk". After leaving New York, Sandy served in the Air Force and married Henrietta Brandrup in Cheyanne, Wyoming. They settled in Boulder where he worked for the Sheriff's Department. Sandy graduated from C.U. Boulder with a degree in Psychology. He later became a Licensed Clinical Therapist and worked at the Mental Health Center. He was very proud of the successful P.A.C.E. program providing mental health treatment through the Boulder County Jail. Sandy married Marilyn Fowler and became a stepparent to Leah and Aaron Rogers . His many hobbies included building wooden canoes, fly fishing and tying, camping, canoeing, the Boulder Rifle Club, woodworking and in later years walking his dogs and visiting with his dear neighbors. He was also an excellent back-seat driver, and spent many hours in his overstuffed garage, tinkering with every tool under the sun. Sandy was a dear and cherished friend to many, a great listener and teacher. He was kind and patient (unless you were a family member holding a flashlight for him) and he was always willing to help anyone in need. He is survived by his children Jessica (Boaz), Susannah, Jeff (Meagan). Stepchildren Leah (Mihail), Aaron (Beth) and his grandchildren Max, Tomer, Esther, Matilda, Sam, Isiah, Annie, Nina, Amelia, Kelly and his sister, Lynn, cousins, ex-wife Marilyn, and his sweet dog Bella. Sandy was preceded in death by his ex-wife Henrietta, his parents, and his beloved son-in-law Ivan Santamaria. All are welcome to a Service of Remembrance on December 11, at 1:00pm at Congregation Har Hashem (south building), 3901 Pinon Drive, Boulder. The service will be live streamed ( https://www.youtub e.com/channel/ucecie IYPZTKNYNH-GEQLXLQ), but you will miss out on snacks and refreshments. Shiva times will be announced at the service. Donations may be made in Sandy's memory to these organizations that were close to his heart: YMCA of Northern Colorado (ymcanoco.org/give/ memorial-gifts) where he took a Parkinson's fitness class and Outdoor Buddies or 4927 Country Road 36, Suite A, Fort Collins, CO 80523).
