Boulder celebrated Winter Bike to Work day on Friday by setting up breakfast stations in multiple locations around Boulder to encourage people to travel to work on their bikes.

The city encouraged people to sign up online. According to a news release, the efforts were to “measure the impact of biking and walking.”

The initiative is the joint effort of advocacy groups and city government for traffic solutions, according to Damond Williams, the service manager at Full Cycle bicycle shop in Boulder.

“It’s letting people know about bike infrastructure, bike pathways and basically reducing traffic,” he said.

The initiative helps the city of Boulder and Boulder County’s transportation master plans’ goals, according to the release.

According to Williams, some Bikers visit multiple stops throughout the morning. “First person was here 7 a.m. on the dot, and they had already come from another stop. So, people have been out before 7 a.m.,” he said.

On average, the station he was at planned to greet around 100 bikers, he said.

Winter Bike to Work Day is celebrated nationally, according to the release. “The City of Boulder, Boulder Transportation Connections (BTC), Boulder County and Community Cycles partner to bring this signature community event to Boulder, including over 25 free breakfast stations in the county hosted by local companies and organizations in Boulder, Longmont, Superior, Niwot and Louisville.”

The city, Boulder Transportation Connections and Community Cycles also offered a “bike home happy hour,” according to the release. Attendees could enjoy free appetizers and giveaways from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Roadhouse Depot, 2366 Junction Place.
