The Boulder County Republican Central Committee has elected George Tristan as its new chair. He will succeed retiring Chair Theresa Watson.

According to a news release, Tristan is an engineer at Ball Aerospace as well as a Hispanic secondgeneration American citizen.

A Marine Corps veteran who moved to Colorado at age 19, he has lived in Longmont since 2018.

“George’s vision for the county party is to see membership become more involved in the community through volunteer opportunities and partnerships with civic organizations,” the release stated. “He envisions more grass-roots engagement with local and state elected leaders in regards to bills, ordinances and onerous regulations that affect county residents and that are contrary to conservative values. He knows these values (fiscal restraint, public safety, solid education) resonate with most Boulder County residents who want to comfortably afford to live in safe communities raising their families — share them as well.”

Tristan could not immediately be reached for comment on which ordinances and regulations he views as problematic or what his top priorities will be as the newly elected chair.

However, he has written a number of opinion columns for the Times-call that may shed some light on his views.

In a Jan. 24 article, he extolled the virtues of American exceptionalism while denouncing “critical race theory” in schools, DEI, the “pandemic” of climate activism and the “gender-denying trans movement.”

And at a Jan. 17 Longmont City Council open forum event, Tristan was a vocal opponent of gun control, saying he believes tighter gun control would “only harm lawabiding citizens” and that “good guys with guns” were necessary to keep the community safe.
