Applications being accepted for vacancy

The 20th Judicial District has started the process of replacing Boulder County Judge Kristy Martinez, who died last week.

The 20th Judicial District Nominating Commission will meet March 22 at the Boulder County Justice Center, 1777 Sixth St., to interview and select nominees for appointment by the governor.

Under the Colorado Constitution, a nominating commission must select nominees and submit their names to the governor within 30 days of a vacancy.

To be eligible, applicants must be a qualified elector of Boulder County and must have been licensed to practice law in Colorado.

The annual salary for this position is $175,908. The appointee will serve a provisional term of two years, after which voters would decide on whether to retain the judge for a fouryear term.

The completed application must be submitted no later than 4 p.m. March 9. Any person wishing to suggest a candidate to fill the vacancy may do so by letter to be submitted to any member of the nominating commission, with a copy to the ex officio chair, no later than 4 p.m. on Thursday.
