Kris Bryant is showing off his A swing early in spring training.

Bryant, starting in right field for the first time in a Rockies uniform Wednesday, hit a towering, 431foot home run onto the left field concourse at Salt River Field.

“Bryant’s was a great swing … it was good to see that out of Kris,” manager Bud Black told reporters in Scottsdale, Ariz.

The homer was Bryant’s second of spring training, and his second in his last three games.

Injury updates: Starting second baseman Brendan Rodgers underwent an MRI on his injured left shoulder and the Rockies are awaiting the results. The hope is that Rodgers will only miss a couple of weeks. Rodgers dislocated his shoulder during the second inning of Tuesday’s game when he dove for a ball.

And closer Daniel Bard, who was not sharp Wednesday in a short stint on the mound, has a cut on the thumb of his throwing hand. Black said that the cut came from Bard’s fingernail.

Position battle: With Rodgers out, the door is open for playing time at the middle infield positions. That’s good news for Alan Trejo. He hit 1-for-3 and stole a base in Wednesday’s game.

Prospect watch: First baseman/right fielder Michael Toglia is off to a slow start at the plate, hitting .222, after going 0-for-2 with a walk and a strikeout on Wednesday.

Wednesday at Salt River Fields

On the mound: Rotation candidate Ryan Feltner pitched two scoreless innings in his first start of the Cactus League. Feltner fell behind in the count in the first inning but regrouped in the second and ended up throwing 28 pitches. His fastball hit 97 mph.

“A good fastball today,” Black told reporters. “I don’t want to predict (what will happen) this season but he’s got an opportunity to show himself and make the team this spring.”

At the plate: Outfield prospect Zac Veen had a hit and stole two bases. His four stolen bases are the most in the Cactus League and are tied with Atlanta’s Justin Dean for the most in baseball. The Rockies have swiped nine bases this spring, tied for the secondmost in the majors.

Third baseman Ryan Mcmahon’s single in the first inning had an exit velocity of 117.7 mph, the hardest-hit ball in the Cactus League or the Grapefruit League this spring.
