The winless mark is no more.

The Colorado women’s lacrosse team put an end to the first 0-4 start in program history by picking up a road win on Sunday, defeating Ohio State 14-10 behind five goals from Charlie Rudy.

The win was No. 99 for coach Ann Elliott Whidden at CU and gave the Buffaloes a sweep of the home-and-home series with Ohio State that began with a home win last season.

“This team is very capable when we execute,” Elliott Whidden said. “We were not perfect, but we made plays when we needed to and we kept at it.”

Ohio State led 2-1 after the first quarter, but Rudy scored three of her five goals in the second quarter, when the Buffs outscored the Buckeyes 6-2 to take a 7-4 lead at halftime.

Ohio State rallied in the third and briefly took a 9-8 lead, but CU outscored the hosts 6-1 the rest of the way.

Sam Mcgee recorded four goals and one assist while Ashley Stokes, who missed CU’S previous game against Michigan, returned to the mix and posted three goals. Junior Zoe Mcelhaney and freshman Jess Peluso both scored their first career goals for the Buffs.

Goalie Grace Donnelly finished with seven saves.

“Nothing is going to be easy for us, every team we play is competing for the same things we are,” Elliott Whidden said. “But when we understand that and we focus on things we can control, focus on the details and little plays, we are capable of anything. Proud of this team today. Lots of work to do, but we will take this win and start to get ready for our conference season which is key for us.”

The Buffs (1-4) open Pac12 Conference play at home on Friday against Stanford (3 p.m.).
