Janet P. Winquest died peacefully and gracefully at Frasier Meadows Retirement Community in Boulder. She was 88 years old.

Jan was born on March 20, 1934, in Keya Paha County, Nebraska, to Howard and Lorene (Cahoon) Hallock. She grew up on a cattle ranch near Springview. She attended Wayne State Teachers College and taught elementary school in Holdrege for four years. She married Raymond (Ray) Winquest on June 22, 1957, in Springview. The couple immediatel­y moved to Southern California to begin their married life. Jan finished her BA work at California State College in Long Beach and taught elementary school in Redondo Beach and Norwalk.

Their two daughters, Mary and Judy, were born in Downey, California, and the family moved to Boulder while the girls were young. Jan enjoyed her family and volunteere­d in school and church activities which involved them. She also enjoyed traveling, cheering for the CU Buffs football team and the Colorado Rockies, hiking and camping, hosting out of town guests, attending concerts and plays, and entertaini­ng family and friends in the family home.

Jan became a Diaconal Minister in the United Methodist Church in 1990 and served on staff as Christian Education Coordinato­r and later in Pastoral Care at Mountain View United Methodist Church.

She also volunteere­d as Chaplain at Boulder Community Hospital for several years.

Jan is survived by her daughters, Mary Winquest of Dillon, Colorado, and Judy Winquest of Boulder; a granddaugh­ter, Kelly Faber of Alamosa; her sister Mary (T.R.) Richardson of Hershey, Nebraska; her brother, Jerry (Karen) Hallock of Sacramento, California; as well as nieces and a nephew and their families and many special cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and a nephew, David Richardson.

A memorial service will be held at Mountain View United Methodist Church, 355 Ponca Place, Boulder, on March 24, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. with a reception following in the Fellowship Hall. Contributi­ons may be made to the Permanent Endowment Fund, Mountain View United Methodist Church.
