City raises parking rate in areas

Boulder will increase the price of on-street pay parking by 50 cents per hour in certain high-demand downtown areas effective April 3, the city announced.

According to a news release from the city, the change stems from an ongoing study on Boulder’s parking needs. The city is also moving toward performance-based pricing, which sets varying on-street parking rates for blocks based on demand while offering lower pricing for off-street parking.

Performance-based parking does not apply to accessible parking spots, whose rate will remain at $1.50 per hour, the release stated. Onstreet pay parking in Downtown Boulder is in effect Mondays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

City of Boulder parking garages will also keep their $1.25 per-hour rate and daily flat rate of $15 for stays of more than six hours. There will still be a $3 flat rate for vehicles coming and going between 3 p.m. and 3 a.m. on weekdays, and free parking on weekends and city holidays will continue.

“Boulder is a recognized national leader in providing a variety of options for access, parking and transportation,” Cris Jones, interim director of the city’s Community Vitality Department, stated in the release. “Performance-based pricing of on-street parking is just one of many strategies the city is working to implement to support the community’s social, economic and environmental goals.”
