Air Quality Control Commission to hold hearing on Cemex permit

The Colorado Air Quality Control Commission is holding an online public hearing at 4 p.m. Friday on a permit renewal for the Cemex cement plant near Lyons.

The hearing was requested by Good Neighbors of Lyons, a residential advocacy group that wants Cemex to comply with the Clean Air Act or be closed. The state also accepted written comments in November as part of Cemex’s Title V operating permit renewal.

According to Good Neighbors of Lyons, the permit should be modified by adding improved monitoring requirements, stricter conditions, and harsher and more timely consequences for noncompliance with air quality standards.
