The road magic was derailed for the Colorado women’s lacrosse team.

The 19th-ranked Buffaloes endured a rugged second quarter before falling at No. 6 Michigan, 13-8, on Saturday in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Buffs, winners of three road games already this season, were outscored 6-2 in the second quarter and never recovered.

It was the second defeat in a top-20 matchup in nine days for CU (4-2), which suffered its first loss of the season last week against thenno. 4 Northwestern.

The match was tied 2-2 early in the second quarter after the first of four goals from CU’S Madeline Pisani, but the Wolverines scored the next five goals on their way to an 8-3 lead at halftime.

Pisani opened the second-half scoring to get the Buffs within 8-4, but Michigan reeled off the next three goals to push its lead to 11-4 with less than 6 minutes remaining in the third quarter.

Pisani (four) and Eve Hritzuk (three) combined to score seven of the Buffs’ eight goals. It was the second-lowest scoring total through six games for the Buffs, trailing only a 7-6 road win at St. Joseph’s two weeks ago. Ashley Stokes scored the other goal for CU, while Michigan’s Kaylee Dyer led all scorers with five goals.

Michigan (6-0) outshot the Buffs 28-26 overall with a 20-17 edge in shots on goal. The Wolverines won 19 of 25 draws.

CU will play on the road for the third consecutive match and for the fifth time in seven games when they play at Marquette on Friday.
