reading: 1p.m. Sunday, Inkberry Books, 7960 Niwot Road, Niwot. Join Melissa J. Roche and sons Ressa Draco and Gabriel M. James for a reading of their new book, “The Curse of the Crow.” Captain Gabriel has done both before, the lemonade and the adventures, so he’s pretty good at it despite the fact that he still has no idea what a swash even is, nor how one would buckle it. Never mind that; he’s setting sail with his quirky crew to embrace the unknown, including a magical unicorn and her warrior-girl companion, a harrowing side quest in search of the elusive “macguffin flower” and a crow-girl haunted by an old curse. UPCOMING

Buffalo Nichols at the Dairy: 7:30p.m. Monday, Dairy Arts Center, 2590 Walnut St., Boulder. On his second album, “The Fatalist,” Carl “Buffalo” Nichols does things with the blues that might catch listeners off guard. There’s 808 programming, chopped up Charley Patton samples and washes of synth. There’s a consideration of the fullness of the sonic stage and the atmospherics of the music that can only come with a long engagement with electronic music. But this is no gimmicky hybrid or attempt to turn the blues into 21st century music by simply dressing it with skittering hi-hats. Nichols’ vision for the blues is of a form of music that’s intimately tied to everyday life. $30, thedairy.org.
