Police arrest 2 residents following short pursuit
Woodland police arrested two people Tuesday night on drug charges after they failed to pull over for an alleged vehicle code violation.
The city’s Gang Task Force was involved in the arrest, that took place around 6 p.m. in the 100 block of Walnut Street near Alderson Convalescent Hospital.
According to a police spokeswoman, members of the task force have been doing additional patrols throughout the city to help reduce or find information about the recent spate of shootings seen in the city and attempted a vehicle stop of a Silver Nissan Altima.
However, the driver of the vehicle didn’t pull over and led officers on a “short pursuit.”
“While in pursuit, officers observed the driver and occupant making furtive movements as if they were concealing items,” reported public information officer Victoria Danzl.
The actions also resulted in a felony stop, which required back up from other officers, who cordoned off the area and took the suspects into custody with their weapons drawn. In all, seven officers as well as police canine Niko were involved in the stop on Walnut Street.
After three suspects were removed from the vehicle, police searched the Nissan and found a digital scale, plastic baggies, a meth pipe and three bindles of methamphetamine weighing a total of 8 grams.
The driver, Kristina Pineda, 26, of Woodland, was arrested for two felony bench warrants, a misdemeanor and possession of a controlled substance for sale. Pineda was booked at the Yolo County Jail.
A second suspect, passenger Harmonte Robinson, 38, also of Woodland, was allegedly found in possession of a bindle of methamphetamine weighing about 7.5 grams. Robinson was also arrested and issued a notice to appear for possession of a controlled substance.
A third person was released without charges. That person was not identified.
No one was hurt during the arrest.
