The Yolo COVID-19 Relief Fund granted $237,500 to four local nonprofits for direct support for rental assistance and childcare to families affected by the pandemic.

To date, the Relief Fund has raised more than $690,000 in total to support the work of nonprofits responding to the COVID-19 crisis in two categories: Front-line response, which addresses critical community needs that have been created or increased by the COVID-19 pandemic such as childcare, health care, health education or safety and nonprofit sustainability, which supports organizations at risk of closing or have had to substantially reduce services due to COVID-19.

Yolo County is reporting 2,710 COVID-19 cases, with 21 new cases reported Tuesday. The county remains in the purple tier, the most restrictive, with widespread risk of COVID-19 activity.

Woodland is reporting 1,148 COVID-19 cases, with eight new cases reported Tuesday. Monday night 1,140, only six more cases from Sunday. In the past two days, cases have increased by 14 cases. There have been 29 COVID-related deaths in Woodland.

“In the wake of challenging need, these funds are a lifeline to a host of local organizations engaged in vital work,” Chairman of the Yolo County Board of Supervisors Gary Sandy stated. “The funding promotes community resiliency and family stability. It’s an investment in our future.”

Participating nonprofits include RISE, Inc., Yolo Interfaith Immigration Network, Yolo County Children’s Alliance and Empower

Yolo.

The Relief Fund is comprised of CARES Act funding and is a partnership between Yolo County, the cities of Woodland, Winters, West Sacramento, and Davis, and the Yolo Community Foundation. The CARES Act is an economic relief package passed by the federal government in response to the pandemic.

CARES Act funding must be spent by Dec. 30. To help ensure that grantees meet this deadline, the Relief Fund allocated remaining funds to organizations that previously applied and have been scored through the Steering Committee and Leadership Advisory process.
