Mask competition unveiled by Garamendi
Congressman John Garamendi announced a competition for residents of California’s 3rd Congressional District.
SACRAMENTO » Amid a national rise in COVID- 19 cases, Congressman John Garamendi announced a Homemade Mask Competition for residents of California’s 3rd Congressional District to promote safe habits that will help curb the spread of COVID- 19.
The U. S. death toll from the coronavirus topped 300,000 Monday just as the country began dispensing COVID- 19 shots in a monumental campaign to conquer the outbreak. The vaccine could be administered to health care workers and critical risk patients in senior care facilities by the end of this week
The number of dead rivals the population of St. Louis or Pittsburgh. It is equivalent to repeating a tragedy on the scale of Hurricane Katrina every day for 5 ½ months. It is more than five times the number of Americans killed in the Vietnam War. It is equal to a 9/ 11 attack every day for more than 100 days.
“The numbers are staggering — the most impactful respiratory pandemic that we have experienced in over 102 years, since the iconic 1918 Spanish flu,” Dr.
Anthony Fauci, the government’s top infectious- disease expert, said days before the milestone.
Meanwhile, 3rd District residents are being urged by Garamendi to not just wear face masks but to design their own and submit them for consideration by Jan. 25.
Local residents will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite mask to select a winner. The winning submission will be displayed on Congressman Garamendi’s social media accounts and website, and the winning artist will receive a Congressional Commendation.
“As COVID- 19 cases continue to rise in our state, it is imperative that we take every possible step to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe and promote safe habits throughout our community,” Garamendi said.
“I want to give every resident of the 3rd District an opportunity to display their homemade masks and all of the ways they are working to curb the spread of COVID- 19,” Garamendi stated. “Together, we can stop the spread of this virus and save lives. I look forward to viewing everyone’s submissions.”
