Churchill recognized by UC Cooperative
UC Cooperative Extension in Yolo County announced that Katie Churchill was awarded the (STAR) award.
UC Cooperative Extension in Yolo County announced that Katie Churchill, UCCE’s Office and Financial Manager, was awarded the Staff Appreciation and Recognition (STAR) award from the University of California Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR).
This is an annual award of distinction for meritorious service to the University and local communities. Churchill has been UCCE’s office manager and assistant in Woodland for about 14 years. She provides support for all UCCE programs, including 4H, Master Gardeners, Master Food Preservers, Nutrition, and Farm Advisor programs in Yolo, Sacramento, and Solano counties. She oversees 30 staff, 21 educational programs, and manages budgets for 122 UC ANR accounts.
UCCE Director Morgan Doran notes, “Katie is incredibly deserving of this award. Thanks to her exceptional leadership and extraordinary organizational skills UCCE came through a tough year with amazing program productivity.”
In particular, Churchill found new ways to outreach UCCE programs under the COVID quarantine paradigm with transitioning educational programs to virtual formats, helping to keep curriculum current, interactive, and useful for continued program outreach to local communities.
UCCE Advisor Rachael Long notes, “Katie’s accomplishments were transformative in ensuring that our county programs stayed focused and productive despite obstacles and hardships with COVID during this past year. 4H clubs continued to engage kids, Master Gardeners held plant sales, Master Food Preservers provided food safety training, nutrition programs served youth and children, and farm advisors continued research on crop production needs in local counties, thanks to Katie’s support. We are so fortunate to have such a dedicated employee on our UC ANR team”.
The award was presented under the leadership of UC ANR’s Vice President Glenda Humiston on June 17.
