Democrat staff Street Racing:

On April 30, on Pioneer and East Gum Avenue at around 1a.m., Officers were in the area for reported vehicles racing on Pioneer Avenue. While patrolling on Pioneer Avenue approachin­g East Gum Avenue, an officer drove up behind two sedans that stopped at the intersecti­on that were side by side. As the officer approached, the two cars took off at a high rate of speed racing each other reaching speeds of approximat­ely 80 MPH. A traffic stop was initiated at Brannigan Avenue where another officer was positioned. Both drivers (David Avila-Soltero19y­ear old, Woodland resident, and Rafael Torres 18years old, Yolo County resident) were arrested for street racing and released on a notice to appear in court.

Stolen Property Recovery: Over on the 100Block of Kern Ave on May 2 at around 10:30 p.m., An officer was contacted by a victim from Davis who stated he found his stolen bicycle for sale on Offer-Up. The officer contacted the seller, Tazwell McClellan a 65-year-old Woodland resident, who arranged a meeting at a residence in the 100 Block of N Kern to sell the victim’s bicycle. A records check revealed that Donald Cupler, a 50-year-old Woodland resident, lived at the house and was on felony probation along with having a warrant for his arrest. The officers made contact at the residence. Cupler was located there and arrested on the warrant. McClellan was detained as he attempted to leave out a side gate. The victim’s stolen bicycle was found in the rear yard. Cupler was arrested and booked at Yolo County Jail for his warrant and possession of cocaine and drug parapherna­lia. McClellan was arrested and booked at Yolo County Jail for knowingly possessing stolen property.

Stolen Vehicle Recovery: On May 6 at around 9 a.m. at the corner of Woodland Avenue and Cleveland Street, an officer took a stolen vehicle report of a 1993Honda Civic from the above location. The victim later called reporting his vehicle was traveling on Main Street at West Street. An officer located the vehicle behind Marshall’s with two subjects near the vehicle. David Azevedo, a 23-year-old Woodland resident, was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle. Another suspect fled on foot. Officers are following up on informatio­n regarding the second suspect. Azevedo was booked into Yolo County Jail.

HOST

HOST was able to connect a person experienci­ng homelessne­ss to long-term resources and care this month. It is a person they have worked with for some time and glad they were able to provide the person with a different situation.

HOST made 31 contacts and offered services to 15 of them of which two accepted services. There were four camps located and one camp was cleaned up. There were 18 downtown patrols and one business contact made. There was one arrest made.
