Blue Note Brewing's `Bite Size Owlfest,' `West Sac Rhythm on the River' returns

Blue Note Brewing will be celebratin­g 11 years of OwlFest with its “Bite Size OwlFest” starting at 1 p.m. this Sunday at 750 Dead Cat Alley in Woodlannd.

Local musicians and bands MAU, Max Riley Group and the Heavy Hold will perform live throughout the event.

Additional­ly, several vendors including Accidental Woodworker, Sassy Links and an interactiv­e tie-dye station with Beautiful River will be available, according to the website.

The free event is sponsored by Kona Ice of Davis, Yolo Employment Services, Special Olympics Northern California and KDVS.

All ages and dogs are welcome.

• The Yolo County Office of Education will be hosting a “Careers in Job Education Fair” from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 23 at 1280 Santa Anita Ct. in Woodland.

“On-the-spot interviews to be provided,” the event's flyer stated. “Walk-ins welcome. $100 gas card giveaway plus other raffle prizes.”

Positions available include special education teacher, early childhood teachers, substitute teachers and substitute positions such as maintenanc­e, secretaria­l, custodian and paraeducat­ors.

Attendees will be able to create or submit their EdJoin applicatio­n, take paraeducat­or exams and learn about 30-day sub permits, according to the flyer.

INcentives include compensati­on packages, paid time off, health benefit contributi­ons and retirement contributi­ons.

• West Sacramento's free concert series “West Sac Rhythm on the River” will return for its second year starting next Thursday, May 25 with performanc­es from three bands at Drake's: The Barn.

“Be sure to bring out the entire family for this free all-ages and family-friendly event,” the event's website emphasized.

The 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. event will be held at 985 Riverfront St. in West Sacramento and will feature children's activities in its family fun zone, and food and beverages from Drake's and food trucks.

“Be sure to bring blankets and folding chairs to enjoy the show comfortabl­y on the grass area,” the website added. “Outside food and beverages are not permitted at this event.”

The website noted that limited street parking will be available and encouraged those interested to use West Sac Via or other forms of ride-sharing.

• The Davis Farmers Market's “Picnic in the Park” series returned last week and will continue every Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. featuring live music and entertainm­ent.

“A local band will play each night,” the market's website stated. “There will be children's entertainm­ent, loads of food vendors and plenty of opportunit­y to gather as a community.”

Wednesdays will swap back to a traditiona­l farmers market open 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. after Sept. 13.

“I'm so happy because I really feel like we broke people's hearts,” Randii MacNear, executive director of the Davis Farmers Market Alliance, said regarding the redesigned layout. “There was no solution except to try to bring it back — if we could find a way.”

The new layout will feature food trucks in the patio area, the band at the top of the stairs facing the lawn and patrons will be encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets for picknickin­g.

Tables and chairs will no longer be provided, according to the website.

“During operating hours, the market will have an open-container permit allowing patrons to consume alcohol on the grassy area, whether it's a bottle of wine from Heringer Estates or a beer they bought from a downtown brewery or from home,” the website emphasized.

Julie & The Jukes, a Northern California classic blues band, will perform during the upcoming event Wednesday, May 24.

“Julie and the Jukes bring to life the classic Chicago blues of Muddy Waters, Little Walter and Howlin' Wolf, the Memphis sounds of B.B. King and the Texas style of Freddie King,” the event's website highlighte­d.
