Evelia Ruiz Genera, a dedicated educator and active community member, passed away on Sunday, October 1st at the age of 74. Born on September 5, 1949, in Guadalajar­a, Jalisco, she came to the United States in 1956 and called it her home ever since. Evelia's life was marked by her commitment to her family, education, and community. She attended Edison High School in Stockton, California, and later graduated from UC Davis in 1972. On August 5, 1972, she married Reinaldo Genera, her lifelong partner. Evelia was deeply involved in her community, serving as a school board trustee, member of YLI #122 and Holy Rosary Catholic Church. She was an educator for over 35 years serving as an elementary school teacher, counselor, administra­tor, and principal. During her retirement she was involved in working with high school seniors to register to vote and was an active member of the California Retired Teachers Associatio­n (CalRTA), reflecting her dedication to education. Evelia found joy in gardening, cherished time with her granddaugh­ters, Sophia and Maya, and was a fixture in the front row at every one of her sons’ musical performanc­es, singing and dancing with unbridled enthusiasm. Evelia was preceded in death by her sister, Dolores Ruiz, her father, Francisco Ruiz and her mother, Dolores Ruiz. She is survived by her husband, Ray Genera, daughter Tania Tafoya (Manuel), sons Diego Genera (Mary Anne) and Octavio Genera (Melonie), and granddaugh­ters Sophia Tafoya and Maya Genera. She is also survived by her brothers George Ruiz and family and Jose Ruiz. Evelia's passing leaves a void in the lives of all who knew and loved her. Her warmth, generosity, and unwavering love for her family and community will be remembered and cherished forever. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and devotion that will inspire generation­s to come. Mass will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church on October 18th at 10am. A celebratio­n of life will take place at Willow Oak Hall from 11:30am - 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to YLI #122 in Memory of Evelia Genera, Attn: Chris Marken, 1473 Stetson St, Woodland, CA 95776 in her honor. Evelia Ruiz Genera's memory will forever inspire us. May she rest in peace.
