Dr. Elvin Dean Jelden, a distinguis­hed children's dentist, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2023. He was born on November 15, 1924, on the family farm in Columbus, Nebraska, and later relocated with his family to Pomona, California, where he graduated from Pomona High School in 1942 Dr. Jelden's journey in service began when he enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1943, serving as an Aerial Navigator on the B-24 Bombers. He continued his commitment to service in the California National Guard, where he held the position of Commanding Officer of the Medical Detachment in the Medical Service Corps. In 1951, Dr. Jelden earned his degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and in 1953, he achieved the title of Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of the Pacific. He establishe­d his dental practice in Woodland in 1953, dedicating himself to his profession until his retirement in 1977 due to a severe heart attack. Beyond his dental career, Dr. Jelden was deeply involved in his community, serving as President of both the Crippled Children's Society of Yolo County and the Rotary Club for two terms. Dr. Jelden was preceded in death by his wife Bettylou Jones Jelden and 2nd wife Ruth Howald Jelden and his son, William Charles and his daughter, Marsha Ruth (Jelden) Shalhoob. He is survived by his son, Timothy Leigh Jelden, his daughter, Claudia Kay Jelden, five grandchild­ren, and five great-grandchild­ren. His legacy of dedication and service will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
