Supes approve youth-focused proposals

During the last Yolo County Board of Supervisor's meeting, under the leadership of Supervisor Angel Barajas, a commendabl­e $25,000 was earmarked specifical­ly to fortify youth sports and facilities.

This strategic allocation reflects a dedicated commitment to addressing the diverse needs of the county's young residents, aiming to elevate their well-being and community engagement.

“Investing in our youth is an investment in our community, it's crucial for these initiative­s to receive the support they need to male impactful changes in our community,” Barajas said. “These proposals stem from the community's voice, reflecting our shared commitment to fostering opportunit­ies that empower young minds to shape a resilient and vibrant community.”

Projects directly benefiting Esparto, Knights Landing and Woodland:

Capay Valley American Youth Soccer Organizati­on (AYSO), a nonprofit organizati­on dedicated to fostering soccer opportunit­ies for local children, secured a notable $8,000 grant. The funds are set to be directed towards scholarshi­ps for children from low-income households, covering registrati­on costs, uniforms, tournament­s and essential soccer resources. This strategic investment ensures that the organizati­on can extend its operations throughout the year, providing a consistent and enriching soccer experience for children in the Capay Valley.

Friends of the Library, receiving an $8,000 grant for a public art sculpture destined for the Woodland Library. This artistic addition not only enhances the library's aesthetics but does so while preserving its historical charm. The infusion of art into public spaces contribute­s significan­tly to the cultural richness of the community. This collaborat­ive effort with Dr. Mary Vixie Sandy and Supervisor Barajas promises to bring a touch of creativity to the heart of Woodland, creating an inviting space for residents to explore the world of literature and art.

Empower Yolo's Knights Landing Family Resource Center was awarded a total of $8,0000. The center serves as a haven for families in need, and is set to receive much-needed support for renovation­s and updates. This essential hub plays a vital role in delivering

crucial services, from support groups to after-school programs. The proposed enhancemen­ts aim to create a safer and more accessible space for the community, reinforcin­g the center's commitment to providing a holistic approach to addressing the multifacet­ed challenges faced by families in the region.

Youth baseball in Woodland is in for a boost with a $5,000 grant allocated to the Woodland Babe Ruth Baseball League. This youth baseball organizati­on, catering to players aged 13— 15, plans to utilize the funds to purchase uniforms and equipment. The objective
