Board invests in comprehensive road rehab program

-

The Yolo County Board of Supervisors is dedicated to improving the standard of roadway infrastructure throughout the county. Its primary focus is on ensuring safer travel and elevating the overall quality of life for Yolo County residents.

Through strategic investments in pavement preservation and rehabilitation, Yolo County road crews are diligently working to make sure upcoming contracted improvements are effective and minimally disruptive to the community.

“We stand at a pivotal moment for Yolo County, where neglected rural and residential roads, some not repaved for over four decades, are finally receiving the attention they deserve,” stated Yolo County Supervisor Angel Barajas in a county press release. “The unwavering support from the Board of Supervisors underscores our vision of safer and more connected communities. Through this road rehabilitation project, we're not just repairing asphalt; we're revitalizing connections, enhancing safety, and paving the way for a brighter, more accessible future for all who call Yolo County home.”

Tentatively scheduled from mid-April 2024 to July 2024, the 2023 Road Rehabilitation Project will focus on downtown Esparto, east of Yolo Avenue, and several county roads, including sections of County Road 23, CR 24, and CR 96.

The road resurfacing project will be conducted in two phases. Phase 1 will encompass the resurfacing of the west side of Esparto, scheduled to take place from mid-April to July 2024, while Phase 2 is anticipated to commence in the summer of 2024.

In downtown Esparto, residents can anticipate the application of new asphalt leveling, asphalt rubber chip sealing, and micro-surface sealing between Woodland Avenue and Plainfield Street, extending from Alpha Street to Yolo Avenue.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed throughout the process by utilizing resources such as Yolo County's Road Improvement GIS Map, available at www.YoloCounty.org/RoadImprovement, or by contacting the Department of Community Services at (530) 666-8811 for any inquiries or assistance.

According to a Yolo County press release, the project's bid opening was held on Nov. 16, 2023, with VSS International, Inc., based in West Sacramento, winning with a bid of $4,185,120.

The project will be funded by gas taxes distributed from the state through the Senate Bill 1 Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation Account. As construction nears for the roadways to be treated, this contractor will provide neighborhood notifications to help coordinate their work efforts with the community.

Additionally, the Department of Community Services' Public Works Division, responsible for maintaining over 752 miles of roads, 147 bridges, and critical infrastructure components, urges residents to prioritize road safety and promptly report any maintenance issues through the online portal at www.YoloCounty.org/RoadMaintenance.
