• The second annual Yolo Vegan Chef Challenge begins April 1 and ends April 30 inviting local chefs to compete for votes with “creative and delicious plant-based menu options.”

“Veganism in on the rise, and you're invited to see why,” Jackie Va, director of food events for Vegan Outreach, said in a press release. “In honor of Earth Month, we encourage everyone to try vegan for the environment. Animal agriculture is one of the largest contributors of human-made greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation, water pollution and air pollution.”

Va noted that only six businesses have signed up including the Davis Food Co-op, Purple Tree Cafe, The Gunrock, Scrubs Cafe, Spokes Grill and Manaao Thai Cuisine.

“With so many alternatives available, it's easier than ever to make choices that help the environment,” Va argued. “The Yolo Vegan Chef Challenge is here to provide you with more vegan options.”
