SAUGERTIES — Marion Finston, 85, died on Wednesday, March 28, 2012. Marion was born on Dec. 28, 1926, in Hamburg, Germany, to John Koehn and Katherine Schiller.

At the age of three, Marion moved with her family to Saugerties and settled in High Woods, where her stepfather, Fritz Trams, operated an upholstery shop. Marion attended Saugerties High School and after graduation obtained her registered nursing degree at Benedictine Hospital. She graduated first in her class, much to the dismay of the nuns who chastised her Catholic classmates for allowing a non-catholic to obtain the distinction.

On Oct. 1, 1949, Marion married John Finston whom she met and fell in love with as a patient of hers in Brooklyn, N.Y. Marion and John settled in Massapequa, where they raised their family of four children, Kate, John, Tom and Jane. Marion moved back to Saugerties in 1985 to be near her mother and siblings. For the past two years, Marion lived in the Middlesex and Springwell Assisted Living Homes, where she was closer to her daughters Jane and Kate.

Marion was a generous and thoughtful mother and grandmother who cared deeply about others. She loved quiet moments reading, attending musical concerts and watching her beloved basketball and baseball games. She also took great pride in her home and garden. She was a loving grandmother to Alicia, Kristopher, Lauren, John Andrew, Ryan, Jacqueline and Thomas John.

Marion is survived by her children Kate, John, Tom and Jane, and her brothers, Ernie and Peter Koehn. She was predeceased by her brother, Rudolf Koehn.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 1, 2012, with a service to follow at Lasher Funeral Home, 100 Tinker St., Woodstock, N.Y. 12498.

Condolences may be sent to: 421 Cola Ballena Blvd., Alameda, Calif. 94501.
