Parties pick state Supreme Court candidates for Mid-hudson Valley

KINGSTON — Most political parties across the Mid-Hudson Valley have selected their candidates for the upcoming state Supreme Court races.

According to the state Board of Elections, in the Third Judicial District Republican­s have again tapped incumbent state Supreme Court Justices E. Michael Kavanagh of Woodstock in Ulster County and Bernard J. Malone Jr. of Delmar in Albany County as their judicial candidates. The Independen­ce Party has also selected Kavanagh and Malone as their candidates.

Democrats have tapped Columbia County resident Richard Mott and Sullivan County resident Stephan Schick as their judicial candidates. Mott and Rockland County resident Larry Weissmann will also hold the Greene Party line in the November race.

Informatio­n on Conservati­ve Party candidates was not available from the Board of Elections.

The Third Judicial District comprises Albany, Columbia, Greene, Rensselaer, Schoharie, Sullivan and Ulster counties.

In the Ninth Judicial District, Republican­s are running incumbent Justice John LaCava of the Westcheste­r County village of Bronxville, Dutchess County resident Carl Chu, and Orange County resident Noreen Calderin of Rock Tavern, said Dutchess County Republican Committee Chairman Michael McCormack.

Continued from page A3 brook, Orange County resident Sandra Sciortino of Washington­ville, and Westcheste­r County resident Gerald E. Loehr of Ardsley as their candidates for three seats up for grabs, according to the state Board of Elections.

Rosa and Loehr, along with Rory I. Lancman, of Fresh Meadows in Queens have been tapped by the Working Families Party.

Rosa has also been cross-endorsed by the Conservati­ve and Independen­ce parties in her bid for a seat on the bench.

She will run with LaCava and Calderin on the Conservati­ve line.

Rosa and LaCava will share the Independen­ce Party ticket with Nassau County resident John Ciampoli of Franklin Square.

The Ninth Judicial District comprises Dutchess, Orange, Westcheste­r, Putnam, and Rockland counties.

State supreme court justices are paid $141,600 annually.
