Three men face charges after brawl
Three men were arrested following a large fight on Main Street in New Paltz early Saturday, authorities said.
New Paltz police and Ulster County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene at 4 a.m. and attempted to disperse a crowd at which fighting had been reported.
Miguel H. Abreu, 25, of New Paltz, was observed fighting with others and was arrested for disorderly conduct, deputies said.
Robert R. Saunders, 22, of New Paltz, was accused of interfering with an officer trying to arrest another individual, then resisted as deputies tried to take him into custody. He was charged with obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest, both misdemeanors, and disorderly conduct, a violation, deputies said.
Michael J. Vitucci, 21, of Staten Island, allegedly threw a full 24-ounce can of beer at two deputies while Saunders was being arrested, then fled on foot. He was apprehended with the help of a police dog and was charged with attempted assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon, a felony; criminal possession of a weapon, menacing, obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest, all misdemeanors, and disorderly conduct, a violation, deputies said.
Abreu was issued an appearance ticket for New Paltz Town Court. Saunders was sent to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $2,000 cash bail or $4,000 bond, and Vitucci was sent to jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 property bond pending a court appearance.
Deputies and town police were assisted by SUNY New Paltz Police and Mobile Life Support Services.
