TOWN OF ULSTER » Kathleen A. Sheehan, 63, of the town of Ulster, died unexpectedly Friday, Feb. 6, 2015, at her home.

Born in Kingston on March 31, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Edward J. Sheehan Sr. and the late Wanda L. (Heins) Sheehan.

Surviving are her brother, Edward J. Sheehan Jr. and his wife Cheryl of Pleasant Valley; nephew Mark Sheehan and his wife Jennifer of Hyde Park; their daughter, Nora Sheehan (Kathy’s great-niece); and nephew, Daniel Sheehan of Astoria, Queens. Also surviving are aunts, uncles, cousins, and their extended families.

Kathy was a graduate of Kingston High School, class of 1969.

She retired in 2013 from IBM. Her career took her from Poughkeepsie, N.Y., to Rochester, Minnesota, to Lexington, Kentucky. She loved the Blue Grass region of Kentucky, and maintained a home in Lexington.

More than anything, Kathy had a love of family and her countless friends. She loved her nephews as if they were her own sons. Special friends included Marilynn Edmonds (her brother’s mother-inlaw), Nancy Rutan, Sarah Katzenmaier and Robert Staats. These are but a few of the many lives she touched.

She possessed the gift of a photographic memory, which allowed her to keep track of all the names, birthdays, and anniversaries of all she came in contact with. She was an avid reader, and also enjoyed movies at the Lyceum Theater in Red Hook. She was a loyal, longtime patron of the Kings Valley Diner in Kingston. She considered the staff there as her friends, and they will miss her!

Kathy enjoyed music, and had a beautiful singing voice. She sang at both St. Catherine Laboure in Lake Katrine and at her parish in Lexington.

She was a breast cancer survivor. During the 1970s and 1980s, she was an outspoken advocate for women’s rights in the workplace.

Kathy believed in giving, both as a volunteer and through financial support. To continue her generous spirit, you may make a donation to the charity of your choice.
