SUNY New Paltz beats Plattsburg­h

NEW PALTZ >> The SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball team keeps racking up wins in State University of New York Athletic Conference play, adding a 74-66 win over Plattsburg­h to its record on Saturday.

(14-6, 10-3 SUNYAC) New Paltz and (9-11, 6-7) Plattsburg­h played tight the first five minutes, but after an 11-0 run the Hawks built a 39-26 lead at the half and would never trail the rest of the way. Plattsburg pulled within three points with five minutes left in the game, but the Hawks held off the comeback.

The Hawks had three players score in double digits. Shannan Walker led the New Paltz attack, scoring 18 points, including four three-point baskets. Kit Small was right behind, knocking down 17 points in the win. Courtney Irby added 15 points and nine rebounds. Laura Stewart had nine points and seven rebounds.

New Paltz finishes its homestand 5-0. The win keeps the Hawks tied for second place in the SUNYAC.

Plattsburg­h also had three double digit scorers. Allie Taylor led the team with 21 points, and Brittany Marshall had 17. Devona
