Man guilty in killing of 3 shopkeepers
A clothi ng salesman on tr i al for the serial slayings of three New York City shopkeepers has been convicted of murder.
Jurors deliberated for less than half an hour Wednesday in state Supreme Court in Brooklyn before finding Salvatore Perrone guilty of three counts of murder.
A police detective test if i ed t he 67- year- old Staten Island man had carried a duffel bag containing a sawed- off rif le, a bloody knife, screwdrivers, switchblades, bleach and a bloody handkerchief.
The three storekeepers had been shot. One also had his throat slit.
Perrone denied t he charges against him and had several outbursts in court. He argued he didn’t shoot anyone and was being f ramed. He faces a penalty of up to life in prison when he’s sentenced on March 4.
Sentence of 25 years to life in teen’s slaying
A 33-yearold central New York man has been sentenced to 25 years to l i fe i n prison for killing a teenage girl while she was vacationing on Lake Ontario with her family.
Steven Szatanek of Baldwinsville was sentenced Wednesday morning in a Oswego County courtroom where a jury convicted him of second- degree murder in early December for killi ng 17- year- old Anna Rose Shove of the Wayne County town of Ontario, near Rochester.
The teen was vacationing with her family at a recreational vehicle park near Lake Ontario’s eastern end when her body was found f loating off a beach in August 2014.
Authorities say Szatanek drowned the teen after meeting her at Brennan Beach in the town of Richland.
During his trial, Szatanek testified that he met the girl and smoked marijuana with her, but said he didn’t kill her.
Deliberations resume in triplemurder trial
Jury deliberations have resumed in the trial of a man charged in the fatal shooting of three people in a Rochester apartment two years ago this month.
A Monroe County Court jury began deliberations Tuesday and lasted until 11 p.m. without reaching a verdict in the triple murder case against 23-year- old Steve Fulcott. The district attorney’s office says jurors resumed deliberations at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Prosecutors say Fulcott fatally shot Jermiliah Simmons, her cousin Jaqueline Simmons and their friend Michael Nelson on Feb. 22, 2014.
Authorities say the killings occurred after one of the victims stole from the marijuana trafficking ring Fulcott was involved in.
An accomplice pleaded guilty last month to second- degree murder while a third man was deemed incompetent for trial.
Wounded police officer leaves hospital
A New York City police officer who was wounded by gunfire in the stairwell of a public housing project is out of the hospital.
Officer Diara Cruz was released Wednesday from Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx.
She was struck in the torso on Thursday night.
Off i c er Patrick Espeut, who was shot in the cheek, was discharged from the hospital on Friday.
Police say the gunman killed himself.
