Highland defeats Poughkeeps­ie

Brianna Rozzi had 17 points and five assists and Emily Peterson had 14 points as Highland High earned a 61-32 victory over Poughkeeps­ie in a Mid-Hudson Athletic League girls basketball game Tuesday.

Jayda Jackson added 12 points and five rebounds for the (12-5) Huskies.

Highland pulled ahead fast with a 20-8 first quarter and 12- 5 second that put them on top 32-13 at the half.

Poughkeeps­ie showed a little life with a 16-11 run in the third before being held to just three in the fourth to seal the loss.

At Hyde Park, Katie McCabe had 12 points, and Talyce Lipinski added 10 as the Presidents topped the Ganders.

Diedre Nolan, with 9 points, and Kayla O’Grady with eight points and 10 rebounds led Roosevelt.

Down six at the half, the Ganders went on a 12-6 run in the third quarter to knot the score at 32. The Presidents then went on a 17-7 run in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

At Boiceville, Sam McKenna scored 18 points and Erin Fox added 15, as the Blazers topped the Indiajns.

Stephanie Smith, with 20 points, led (7-10) Onteora.

After falling into a 12- 6 hole in the first quarter, Onteora held a 15-11 advantage in scoring in the second to finish the half down by just two.

Onteora stayed within four at the end of the third before a 14-8 Blazer run in the fourth sealed the victory. At Highland, Tanisha Edge had 21 points and Kellyann Averill had 20, as the Sawyers defeated the Huskies on Monday night.

Brianna Rozzi led Highland with 12.

After The Huskies managed to stay within three during the first half, Saugerties opened up a 16-5 run in the third quarter and never looked back.
