16U Mid Hudson Tigers win tourney
The Mid Hudson Tigers 16-and-under softball team swept all seven games it played as it rolled to the championship of a Knights of Columbus Charity Tournament.
The Tigers outscored their foes 57-9, including a 12-0 triumph over the Connecticut Angels in the title game.
Jessica Chilcott had a homer and four RBI and Cat Simmons, Shannon Bonewit, Sydney Bonewit and Bianca Novotny each had two hits to back the shutout pitching of Lily Watson in the finals.
The Tigers beat the Stratford Breakers, 8-0, then edged the Dutchess Debs, 4-3, in the quarterfinals and the Mount Olive Marauders, 10-2, in the semifinals.
Kaitlyn Schrowang had a homer and three RBI, Simmons and Chilcott also homered and Sydney Bonewit and Jenna
Poulsen both had two hits in the Stratford game. Vanessa Brandt got the win.
Chilcott had a single, double, triple and two
RBI, Shannon Bonewit got the win and Sydney Bonewit made consecutive diving catches in center field against the Debs.
Schrowang had two RBI on a single and double, winning pitcher Watson also doubled and singled, and Chilcott and Paulson
each had two hits in the victory over the Marauders.
In pool play, the Tigers beat the Morris County Belles, 5-0, the Connecticut Rockets, 8-1, and the Marauders, 10-3, with Shannon Bonewit getting the win all three games.
Offensive standouts for
those games were Chilcott (four singles, two triples), Shannon Bonewit (two singles, double, triple), Schrowang (three singles, double, triple), Novotny (three singles, double, triple), Poulsen (four singles) and Alyssa Finno (four singles, triple).
