10U Ulster Fillies wrap up season with tourney title

The Kingston American Legion Post 150 Ulster Fillies 10-andunder softball team capped its season with a sixth consecutiv­e championsh­ip when it won its own Fillies Frenzy Tournament at the Cantine Field complex.

The Fillies went to extra innings in the title game, scoring twice in the bottom of the seventh to beat the Cheshire (Connecticu­t) Wildcats, 2-1. Sophia Fromson drove in the tying run and Sydney Slimak knocked in the walkoff game-winning run.

Ulster outscored the opposition 47-2 in winning all six of its games.

The Fillies earned the top seed by going 3-0 in pool play. They defeated the Mid-Hudson Rebels, 5-1, on Cassie Brundage’s walk-off grand slam, then defeated the Warwick Valley Wildcats, 11-0, and the Frozen Ropes Force, 7-0.

Ulster then blanked the Frozen Ropes Force, 12-0, and the Long Island Force, 10-0, to reach the championsh­ip game.Brundage, who struck out 43 of 81 batters and allowed only one run, had seven RBI in the tourney on four singles, a double and the home run.

Maddie Dodig (three doubles, homer, single, stolen base, nine runs scored), Kersten Keeler (three singles, double, steal, six runs) and Fromson (seven singles, double, three steals, two RBI, eight runs) also had big weekends. Other offensive contributo­rs were Cali DeLawder (two singles, two doubles, three RBI), Grace Mesuch (single, three walks, four runs), Courtney Meyer (two singles, four doubles, four RBI), Grace Terpening (double, two runs), Ayla Terpening (five walks, four steals, two runs) and Leah Gunsett (two singles, four walks, four runs).
