Undefeated Saugerties captures Mum Bowl

Undefeated Saugerties High gained 509 yards en route to defeating Red Hook, 39-6, in Saturday's Mum Bowl.

SAUGERTIES >> Unbeaten Saugerties High amassed 509 yards of offense Saturday, rolling to a 39-6 victory over Red Hook in the Mum/River Bowl.

The Sawyers are now 6-0, the most wins they’ve had since going 6-4 in 2009.

Jimmy Ball ran for 143 yards and two touchdowns and Rob Trincellit­o also rushed for two TDs to lead Saugerties, which totaled 19 first downs.

Quarterbac­k Matt Bucci also had a big game for the Sawyers, rushing for over 100 yards and passing for 80, including a 56-yard TD strike to Zach Hartrum.

Saugerties dominated in all aspects. The defense registerd three sacks and also intercepte­d Red Hook quarterbac­k Nick Morrissey twice. Rory Cohan played well in the secondary. The Sawyers also shined on special teams, including blocking a punt deep in Raider territory.

Tristen Schiafo rushed for 174 yards for (4-2) Red Hook, including 32-yard touchdown run.

Both teams are home next Saturday. Saugerties plays host to Poughkeeps­ie in a Section 9, Class A game. Red Hook regroups to take on New Paltz in a pivotal game that has the Class B Division I title on the line. Monticello 21, Wallkill 20

Monticello won the Battle of the Panthers, holding off Wallkill.

Khadeem Richards carried the ball 25 times for 270 yards and three touchdowns to lead Monticello to its first win of the year. It lead the Class A game 14-12 at halftime.

Monticello is now 1-4 in Class A and 1-5 overall. Wallkill is now 1-3 in A and 2-4 overall.

Wallkill is home Friday night to face (4-2) Cornwall, which beat Goshen 56-7 Saturday.
