Frank F. Meyer Sr., 89, of Canandaigua
Frank F. Meyer, Sr., age 89, of Hammocks Drive, formerly of Elm Street, Saugerties, N.Y., died at F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua on Monday, Oct. 5, 2016. He was born Nov. 14, 1926, in Springfield, Long Island, the son of Theresa (Primm) and Harry Meyer.
Frank served with the U.S. Marine Corps from October 1943 until February 1946 as a forward observer with the 15th Marines on Okinawa. He was wounded in combat on May 14, 1945, and was awarded the Purple Heart, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the U.S. Navy Commendation Medal, and the Presidential Unit Citation, as well as the Expert Rifleman Medal. He retired from Philips Electronics Corp. in 1989 after 36 years of service.
Frank served as treasurer of Greene County Council D.A.V., was past Commander of V.F.W. Post 5034, a member of American Legion Post 72, and a life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart. He served as treasurer of his Senior Citizens group. When he moved to Canandaigua, N.Y., in 2013, he joined American Legion Post 256 and VFW Post 7414.
Surviving are his son, Frank Jr., and daughter-inlaw, Siobhan McGuire, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Florence, whom he married on Aug. 31, 1946, at St. Theresa’s Church in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was also predeceased by two sisters, Josephine Meyer and Gertrude Ryan, and by three brothers, Henry, Edward, and Lawrence Meyer.
His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home Inc., corner of John and Lafayette streets, Saugerties. Interment
with military honors by Saugerties American Legion Post 72 will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friends will be received Tuesday
