Larry Coryell Trio performs Oct. 22 in Middletown
WHAT: Concert by Larry Coryell Trio WHEN: Oct. 22 at 8 p.m. WHERE: Orange Hall Theatre on the campus of Orange County Community College, 24 Grandview Ave., Middletown
DETAILS: Larry Coryell, considered the godfather of jazz rock, will team up with drummer Steve Johns and bassist Daryl Johns for this performance at the college. Coryell’s musical expression has taken him on a diverse journey, as he explored everything from psychedelic rock to unaccompanied acoustic music to straight-ahead bebop. These multifarious musical voices have enabled him to make his mark in music by way of the jazz and fusion world. Tickets are $15 for adults, and $10 for senior citizens, faculty, staff and alumni. Students will be admitted free.

Firewood raffle tickets being sold in Woodstock
WHAT: Firewood Raffle WHEN: Drawing takes place Nov. 7 at 7 p.m.

DETAILS: Woodstock Fire Department Company No. 1 is hosting its Second Annual Fire Wood Raffle. This year, the department is raffling off five cords of firewood and one prize of $200 cash. Tickets are $5 each or five for $20.

Student essays on places in Hudson Valley sought
WHAT: Student essay contest WHEN: Submission deadline is Nov. 7
DETAILS: Teaching in the Hudson Valley invites children and teens from grades kindergarten through 12th grade to write about places in the Hudson Valley that have special meaning for them. Students in Ulster, Dutchess, Columbia, Greene and Orange counties are among those eligible. The essays should be recent — completed during the summer or fall of this year. Students in grades kindergarten through fourth grade write poems, paragraphs or short stories about museums, historic sites or parks in their community or elsewhere in the Hudson Valley. Older students may choose one of two prompts at teachingthehudsonvalley. org/prompts2016/. They are designed to provoke more complex thinking and writing. Prizes will be awarded.

Orders being taken for holiday wreaths

DETAILS: Mental Health America of Dutchess County is holding its annual holiday wreath sale. The wreaths are $20 each and include one fresh and lush balsam wreath, red bow, pine cones, berries and wire. The deadline to order wreaths is Nov. 18. They can be picked up Nov. 30 from noon to 5 p.m. in Mental Health of America of Dutchess County’s back parking lot.

Audience-participation murder mystery on Oct. 30
WHAT: Audience-participation murder mystery WHEN: Oct. 30 at 5 p.m. WHERE: Liberty Diner, 25 Sullivan Ave., Liberty DETAILS: Take a walk on the spooky side when the Greater Liberty Chamber of Commerce presents Big Sky Productions in “Polter-Heist,” an audience-participation murder mystery. “PolterHeist” takes place at The Mouldering Pines Inn, where the Bogeyman Outreach Organization is holding its annual convention. As organization members, the audience will observe a séance, meet the Inn’s resident ghost and learn dark secrets. Audience members will also enjoy a soup and salad bar, a sit-down dinner with thier choice of filet of sole, London broil, veggie lasagna or lemon chicken, and dessert. Dinner includes soda, coffee or tea. A cash bar will be available. Tickets are $45, $40 for Liberty Chamber of Commerce members.
