Margaret R. ‘Margie’ Mahoney, 89, of Stone Ridge

-

A life welllived has come to an end. Margaret R. “Margie” Mahoney of Route 209, Stone Ridge, passed away on Monday, Nov. 21, 2016 at home, where she wanted to be.

Born June 27, 1927 in East Kingston she was the daughter of the late Francis and Teresa Robb Tierney. Margaret attended Kingston High School and helped support her family by working at the Kingston Knitting Mill. After her marriage to Michael “Mike” Mahoney in February 1947 she made her home in Stone Ridge where she raised two children.

Margaret was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Being a homemaker and caring for her family was the focus of her life. Margaret was quiet, kind, and wise with a gentle sense of humor. She enjoyed the simple things in life; being with her family and having her faithful little Pug, Rocky, by her side was all she needed to be happy.

Margaret liked to read; she enjoyed reading the newspaper and doing the Jumble while sipping her morning cup of coffee. She loved all kinds of flowers and always had a single flower or bouquet in a vase or jar on the kitchen table. She had a knack for making anything grow and truly had a green thumb.

Margaret was a good, old-fashioned cook. Since she had lived through the Great Depression with four siblings she loved to shop leisurely through the aisles of any grocery store or supermarket selecting things she could only wish for as a child.

Margaret was proud of her Irish heritage and shared many wise old Irish sayings that were passed down from her mother. She went to Ireland and was proud to say that she was able to kiss the Blarney Stone.

She enjoyed traveling with Mike on their annual trips to Florida, Cape Cod, and North Carolina, as well as their many spontaneous day trips.

In her younger days Margaret loved to dance.

A parishioner of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church in Rosendale, Margaret’s strong faith was an important aspect of her life. She was a very spiritual person.

Margaret is survived by her daughter, Maureen Mahoney of Stone Ridge; granddaughters, Erin Mahoney Bush of Stone Ridge and Kara Mahoney of North Carolina; two greatgrandchildren; and a sister, Alice Fine of Rhinecliff, N.Y. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Mike Mahoney in 2001; her beloved son, Michael Mahoney in 2001; brother, John Tierney; and sisters, Frances Tomshaw and Virginia Christianna.

To honor her wishes, there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, Nov. 25, 2016, 10 a.m., at St. Peter’s Church in Rosendale. A private burial will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Arrangements entrusted to the Humiston Funeral Home, Kerhonkson.
