Daniel Jones Key, 30, of Poughkeeps­ie, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016, at Vassar Brothers Hospital.

He was born on May 15, 1986 to Jonathan Key and Patricia Jones Gunsch. He was a Poughkeeps­ie native, who attended Poughkeeps­ie High School and Dutchess Community College. He was a recent transplant to Esopus, N.Y.

Daniel had the good fortune of working for NBC and Yahoo and most recently a job he truly loved “landscapin­g”. He loved to be outdoors, camping, hiking, swimming, and for those who knew him well “jumping into those swimming holes from cliffs and railroad trestles”. From the time he could hold a pole and dangle a hook in the lake or stream or river he truly found his “passion”. From fly fishing the Ausable River and catching pike in Lake Champlain and stripers in the Hudson. “He truly was hooked on fishing”.

Daniel is survived by his mother, Patricia Jones Gunsch; father, Jonathan Key; brother and sister-inlaw, Masson Gunsch and Laura Ventoliere-Gunsch; sister and brother-in-law, Prudence and Rafael Peterson; “little” brother Jihad Otts; Aunt Cathy and Uncle Kevin Parks, Aunt Sue and Uncle Jeff Jones, Aunt Barbara and Uncle Jerry Philipps and Aunt Jean and Uncle Ron Key; cousins, Scott, Kim, Dylan and Hunter Parks, Shannon and Billy Doxey, Jordan, Xzavier and Xzander Parks, Cassie and Matt Jones, and Matt and Megan Key.

He was predecease­d by his maternal grandparen­ts, Florence and Edward Jones; paternal grandparen­ts, Sophie and Floyd Key; and his loving dog, “Duke” who passed away in June.

Visitation for Daniel will be held on Friday, Nov. 25, 2016, from 1 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m., at Parmele, Auchmoody & Schoonmake­r Funeral Home, 110 Fulton Ave., Poughkeeps­ie, N.Y., 12603. Funeral services will be held on Saturday from the funeral home at 12 p.m. Interment will be private.
