ROSENDALE >> Sidney Norinsky passed from this world on April 4, 2017, at his beloved home in Rosendale.

Sid was 92 ½, a playwright with a body of work comprising nine fulllength plays, single acts plays and satiric short plays on politics, evolution, computer dating and the informatio­n explosion.

Many of his works covered turning points in political history such as the play “Bertie” about Bertrand Russell, famed mathematic­ian and philosophe­r. The play was performed here and on the West Coast and chosen as a semi finalist in the Eugene O’Neill National Playwright­s Competitio­n. In September 2014 a SidFest was held at the Arts Society of Kingston with staged readings of three of his plays. Other plays were performed here, in California and N.Y.C. theater groups have performed readings. Sid also wrote two novels and numerous short stories.

Sid was a man of wide knowledge and an excellent raconteur as well as a seasoned and passionate sailboat racer. He competed in a number of day and night “Around Long Island” Races with crew, winning prizes.

During World War II he was in the U.S. Army Air Corps, an electronic­s and radio specialist based in England, and a graduate of New York University.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Lynne Friedman, an artist; son, David Norinsky; daughters, Andrea Uliano and Judith Norinsky; granddaugh­ters, Megan Van Dam, Caitlin Uliano; five great-grandchild­ren; and Puff, his delightful pet, who can be seen sitting on his shoulder in his favorite self-portrait.

A Memorial will be held in Kingston celebratin­g his life in the next few months.

Contributi­ons in his memory can be made to the ACLU and Southern Poverty Law Center.
