LAKE KATRINE, N.Y. >> Jessica Chilcott’s 4-hit, five-RBI performance and the return of Megan Peace to the pitching circle highlighted Kingston High’s first softball triumph of the season at Burke Field as the Tigers rolled to a 16-0 win over Washingtonville.

Chilcott led the 15-hit assault, going 4-for-4 with two singles, two triples and the five RBI. She hit a RBI triple in the second inning, singled in two in the third and tripled home two more in the fourth.

The (1-2) Tigers scored all their runs in those frames, getting six in the second and five in both the third and fourth.

“We needed this game to get our bats going,” Kingston coach Trishann Hayes said. “I

told the girls in our first two games, we fell behind and our bats just weren’t on. I told them, ‘Take the pressure off, go out and play the game the Kingston way, with our style and our swagger.’

“We needed to be more disciplined and a lot more patient at the plate.”

Peace, a junior who missed all of last season to ACL surgery on her right knee, pitched in her first scholastic game since 2015. She shut out Washingtonville on four hits in the mercy-rule shortened five-inning game, striking our three and walking one.

“Megan threw very well today,” Hayes said. “For a first time after being out for a year, she did just great.”

Sydney Bonewit (triple, two singles. two RBI), Kaitlynn Schrowang (single, triple, two RBI), Shannon Bonewit (single, double, two RBI) and Victoria Ost (two singles, RBI) also had big days at the plate. Chilcott, Ost and the Bonewit sisters scored three times each.

“Defensively and offensively, we were on,” Hayes said. “All-around, it was a good game.”

The Tigers, whose game on Friday at Monroe-Woodbury was postponed, plays host to Warwick on Monday.
