Wallkill hangs on to top Roosevelt in MHAL play

Roosevelt High left the tying run on third and go-ahead run on first in the top of the seventh inning as Wallkill escaped with a 4-3 win in a Mid-Hudson Athletic league baseball game at Dutchess Stadium.

The Presidents strung together a series of singles before Ethan Klein smacked a two-run single off reliever Justin Dunikowski to close the deficit to 4-3. Dunikowski got the final out to earn the save, allowing two runs and striking out two.

Starter Kyle Doring walked the bases loaded in the first, but came back and struck out the side en route to a 12-strikeout effort, allowing three hits and one run in five innings for the win.

Wyatt Mehneti belted an RBI triple; John Zinko hit an RBI double; Kley Hewitt smacked two singles and scored twice; Brad Betcher added a double and Andrew Davis and Dan Hopper each hit singles to lead (2-4) Wallkill.

Mitchell Oakley took the loss allowing three runs on six hits, while striking out three in five innings.

Oakley helped himself on offense with two singles; Kerns smacked two singles, Mike Santaro had two singles and a RBI to carry the Panthers in the loss. Onteora 21, Ellenville 0

At Ellenville, the Eagles capitalize­d on seven Devils’ errors and 12 walks to earn the win.

Steven Croswell recorded the win, allowing two hits and striking out five in five innings.

Zach Chartrand led Onteora with two single, three walks, five runs scored and an RBI, while Mike Haven had two singles, three walks and three RBI to lead the (2-3) Eagles.

Mike Troiania, Ari Lonstein and Tyler Cassidy had singles for (1-2) Ellenville. Rhinebeck 10, Webutuck 6

At Rhinebeck, Steve Byrum struck out five, and allowed three hits and one walk in 4 2/3 innings of relief as the Hawks remained undefeated.

Bradan Hines had two RBI, Aidan Hack had a RBI and scored twice, Lex Kronbichle­r had two RBI and scored twice for (4-0) Rhinebeck.

Zach Carroll belted a two-run homer to pace Webutuck. Brodie Compion took the loss. Marlboro 6, Rondout 3

At Kyserike, Nick Rabe’s bases-clearing double in the seventh gave the Dukes a 6-1 cushion en-route to the win.

Connor Corrado threw six innings of three-hit ball allowing one run for the win. Hayden Toussiant hit two singles and had a RBI; Austin Casey smacked three singles and had a RBI and Sam Mongelli doubled to lead (7-2) Marlboro.

Andrew Huffman struck out 13 in the loss, while Andrew Parete had a double to pace Rondout.
