Marlboro tops Rondout in 9-inning marathon

Marlboro High pulled out a wild 8-7 extra-inning softball triumph over undefeated Rondout Valley in Mid-Hudson Athletic League action. The Dukes rallied three times in the game.

KYSERIKE, N.Y. >> Marlboro High pulled out a wild 8-7 extra-inning softball triumph over undefeated Rondout Valley in Mid-Hudson Athletic League action.

The Dukes rallied three times in the game, including scoring five times in the fifth to go ahead 7-3. Rondout refused to back down and it scored a run in the fifth and three in the bottm of the seventh to tie.

The deadlock remained until the top of the ninth when Shannon Camuso hit a leadoff double and scored on Mel Papuli’s one-out double.

The Ganders threatened in its half of the inning, getting a walk and a pair of singles. Catcher Danielle Macario picked off a runner at third and, with runners on second and third with two out, winning pitcher Taylor Felicello coaxed a comebacker to end the game.

Felicello had a big game offensivel­y with three doubles, a single and three RBI. Kasey Conn doubled twice, Victoria Sorace had a pair of singles, Camuso also had two singles and Papuli had two hits for the day for (44) Marlboro.

Makaylah Mutz smacked a pair of triples for four RBI, Jessica Kreeck had three singles, Bianca Novotny had two singles, a double and triple, Mackenzie Fischer had two singles and Jessica Meyer doubled and singled for (6-1) Rondout. Roosevelt 8, Wallkill 2

At Hyde Park, Madchen Knauss pitched a three-hitter with six strikeouts and also singled and doubled to lead (4-1) Roosevelt.

Elizabeth Gross had two singles, a double and two RBI, Chloe Morretti also had a single and double, and Sarah Zagorski hit a pair of singles for the Presidents. Saugerties 10, Poughkeeps­ie 1

At Saugerties, Nicole VanVoorhis drove in three runs with a single and double, Abby Hart had two singles and a RBI, and Jaci Gerhing singled, doubled, knocked in one run and scored twice in the win for the (4-1) Sawyers.

Zykia Davis tripled and singled for Poughkeeps­ie.
