Gretchen Andrea’ Martino of Kingston graduated, summa cum laude, from the State University of New York at Fredonia, with a bachelor of fine arts degree in music theater. She is the daughter of Susan Martino of Kingston and Joseph Martino of Saugerties.
••• Madeline Pacella of Hurley graduated, magna cum laude, from the University of Toledo in Ohio on May 7, with a degree in criminal justice.
Pacella was also named to the dean’s list for the fall and spring semesters. In addition, she was recognized by the university for having the highest grade point average on the women’s track and field team.
Pacella will be pursuing a career in law enforcement on the state or federal level.
She is the daughter of Marco Pacella of Kingston and Janine Pacella of Hurley.
••• Hayley Spoljaric of Saugerties graduated from Nazareth College in Rochester, with a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and toxicology.
••• Theresa Brown of Ellenville graduate from Ohio Christian University in Circleville, Ohio, with an associate of arts degree in human services.
••• James Joseph Alecca of Port Ewen graduated, with highest honors, from Stratford Career Institute in St. Albans, Vt., with a degree in business management.
He achieved a cumulative 3.741 grade point average.
••• Three area residents attending Union College in Schenectady — Benjamin Nadareski of New Paltz, and Abadie Ludlam and Elizabeth Ricci, both of Red Hook — were among the students who made presentations at the college’s Steinmetz Symposidum Day.
The symposium features an extensive array of oral presentations, posters, performances and exhibits, with concurrent sessions held all day in lieu of regularly scheduled classes. The evening includes a reception and musical performances.
Nadareski is a member of the Class of 2017. Ludlam
is a member of the Class of 2018, Ricci is a member of the Class of 2019.
••• Two area residents attending the State University of New York at Oneonta — James Bethel of Saugerties and Taylor DeMarco of Marlboro — were elected to the College at Oneonta Foundation Board of Directors.
The mission of the State University College at Oneonta Foundation Corporation is to raise and administer gifts and grants to enhance the academic status of the college through endowment, scholarships and institutional programs. The terms begin in June.
Bethel is majoring in adolescence education: biology. He is captain of the wrestling team and serves as team representative for the Student Athlete Association Council. He has also performed community service through the Gorilla Grapplers Wrestling Club.
DeMarco is majoring in adolescence education: mathematics. Her activities include working as a resident advisor in Sherman Hall and serving as secretary of the college’s Association of Secondary Educators student organization.
••• Three area residents attending the University at Albany — Emma Hoffman of New Paltz, Logan Losito of Wallkill and Mitchell Rogerson
of Lake Katrine — were named resident assistants for the spring semester.
Resident assistants promote safety within the residence halls and are also responsive to students’ needs.
••• Jada Scott of Ellenville was named to the dean’s list at Berry College in Rome, Ga., for the spring semester.
Students earn dean’s list status by achieving a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
••• Five area residents — Daniel Caffrey of Saugerties, Michael Krebs of New Paltz, Dominique O’Halloran of Kerhonkson, Seth McClenahan of Rhinebeck and Abigail Cornwell of Catskill — were named to the dean’s list at Worcester Polytechnic Institue for the spring semester.
Students earn dean’s list status based on the amount of work completed at the A level in courses and projects.
Caffrey is a member of the Class of 2020 and is majoring in electrical and computer engineering. Krebs is a member of the Class of 2020 and majoring in computer science. O’Halloran is a member of the Class of 2019 and is majoring in chemical engineering. McClenahan is a member of the Class of 2018 and is majoring in chemical engineering. Cornwell is a member of the Class of 2017 and is majoring in biochemistry.
