Man accused of shooting female friend is indicted
The incident happened on Feb. 26 after a night of drinking, according to the Ulster County district attorney.
A man who authorities say shot a 21-year-old female friend in the face on Feb. 26 at a home in Marlborough after a night of drinking has been indicted for felony assault, according to the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office.
Darren J. Olympia, 22, of Newburgh, was indicted by an Ulster County grand jury for “recklessly shooting” the woman, according to a press release. He faces up to seven years in state prison if convicted.
According to the district attorney’s press release, “for no justifiable reason” after a night of drinking in Newburgh, Olympia returned to 32 Bingham Road in Marlborough with the woman and then shot her in the forehead and “blew out her facial bones.”
The shooting happened about 4:10 a.m., and Olympia was arrested by state police later the same day. He originally was charged with both felony assault and reckless endangerment.
Olympia is expected to appear in Ulster County Court for arraignment within a few days, according to the press release.
The case is being prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Emmanuel Nneji. Olympia is represented by attorney William Garvin.
Olympia was released from the Ulster County Jail Feb. 27 on $50,000 bond, according to a jail officer.
