Richard P. Chewens, Jr., 51, of Catskill

Richard P. Chewens, Jr., 51, of Jefferson Hgts., Catskill, passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2017.

He was born in Catskill, a son of Linda Smith Chewens and the late Richard P. Chewens, Sr. For 25 years Rick worked as a corrections officer for the Coxsackie Correctional Facility. A member of New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association, he retired in 2013.

Rick was a Life Member of the Catskill Fire Department, a member of Catskill Hose Company #1 and the Earlton Fish & Game Club.

Loving husband of Elizabeth Edwards-Chewens; father of Richard P. Chewens III of Schenectady, Tyler Chewens of Albany and Elijah Chewens of Coxsackie; his mother Linda Chewens of Dothan, Alabama; three brothers, Steven Chewens (Susan) of Harriman, James Chewens (Veronica) of Catskill and the late Brian Chewens. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Family and friends will gather on June 16, 2017, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Hgts., Catskill. A service by the Catskill Fire Department will then be conducted at 6 p.m., followed by tributes. Everyone is then welcomed to the Catskill Fire Department for fellowship. Private inurnment will be in Town of Catskill Cemetery.
