Mid-Hudson Rebels set for annual tournament
Mid-Hudson to host 9th annual tournament this weekend at Cantine Memorial Complex
SAUGERTIES, N.Y. » The ninth annual Mid-Hudson Rebels Rumble softball tournament will take place this weekend at the Cantine Memorial Complex.
Thirty-six teams will battle in five age divisions (10U, 12U, 14U, 16U, 18U), with the Rebels competing in three of those divisions. Pool play begins today with three games, as well as a Home Run Derby to benefit the Rebels Carmen Congelli Memorial Fund.
Congelli, a Marlboro High AllStar and Rebels standout, died from cancer at age 17 in 2011. The Derby will be held on Field 5 with qualifying from 5 to 7 p.m. and the championship round commencing at 7. There will be 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U and 17-andover adult brackets.
The fee is $5 for five outs. Prizes will be awarded.
Competing in the 4-team 10U division are the Rebels, NC Chaos, Frozen Ropes Force, MW Crusaders Black, while the Rebels, Ulster Fillies ’04, Ulster Fillies ’05, Dutchess Debs, Berkshire Blaze, NC Chaos Cryptonite, MW Crusaders Purple, Hudson Valley Panthers, MD Blaze, Warwick Wildcats, OC Bombers and MW Crusaders White will compete in the 12-team 12U bracket.
Joining the Rebels in the 8-team 14U bracket are the Fil-
lies, Saugerties Cruisers, Rotterdam Rumble, OC Bombers, Mechanicville Rippin Rebels, Hudson Valley Wildcats and the MW Crusaders Black.
Competing in the 8-team 16U division are the Guilderland Heat, Rotterdam Rumble, Vermont Cougars, Capital Region Reign, Guilderland Bulldogs, MW Crusaders Purple, Hudson Valley Vengeance Blue and Burnt Hill Spartans, while the SC Hurricanes, Hudson Valley Vengeance, Warning Track Heat and Vermont Cougars will compete in the 4-team 18U bracket.
In all, 54 pool play games will be held today and Saturday, with elimination play on Sunday.
The 10U Rebels open play 8:15 a.m. Saturday against the Crusaders Black on Field 4, while the 12U Rebels face the Berkshire Blaze 7 p.m. today on Field 3.
The 14U Rebels square off against the Hudson Valley Wildcats 9:15 a.m. Saturday in their tourney opener.
The Rebels’ 10U squad are 13-22-2 this season and are coming off a recent runner-up finish in the Miss Shen Tournament and a fourth-place finish in the OC Extreme Fall League. Players are Mia Chambers, Allisyn Kipp, Erin Parete, Morgan Pritchard, Kendyl Short, Ella McDonough, Ayla Terpening, Ella Bennett, Stefanie Cogswell, Emma Maxwell, Hannah Knowles, Lauren Schoonmaker and Nora Michaud.
The team is coached by John Parete, assisted by Eric Chambers, Gary Short, Rich Terpening and Al Stokes.
The 12U Rebels are enjoying a strong season with a 25-16-3 record, including the Mid-Lakes Invitational tournament title and runner-up finishes in both the Fastpitch Nation and Chase Winter tournaments. The roster includes McKenna Fairley, Emma Haller, Barrett Holsapple, Rachel Hoyt, Gianna Koch, Trista Lukaszewski, Cadence Sickler, Abigail Naccarato, Abigail Schaffer, Mackenzie Sullivan, Gianna Tisch and Audrey Werba.
Coaching the 12U squad is Brian Haller, assisted by Tom Holsapple, Eric Koch, Bill Sickler and Errol Tisch.
The 14U Rebels are 1812, including a runner-up finish at the Chase Winter Classic and a third-place finish at the Stars of Tomorrow Tournament, The roster consists of McKenna Alberts, Amber Banas, Hallee Binney, Devin Fitzpatrick, Dylan Lane, Emily Lutz, Jennifer Mead, Grace Milano, Lauren Parete, Jaime Peterson, Courtney Schwark and Madison VanCuren.
They are coached by Boyd Vaughn, assisted by Kirstyn Vaughn, Paul Fitzpatrick and Terry Lane.
