Crash in LaGrange kills Westchester man, 26
A Westchester County man died in a two-car crash on Noxon Road that also injured two Poughkeepsie men, the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.
The crash, about 11 p.m. Wednesday, killed Jonathan J. Steere, 26, of Yorktown Heights, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Steere was southbound on Noxon Road, near Fireman’s Way, when the 2000 Honda Civic he was driving crossed over the center pavement markings and struck a northbound 2006 Dodge Ram occupied by its driver, Santiago M. Castillo, 38, and passenger Jose R. Castillo, 49, both of Poughkeepsie, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Steere was taken to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie, where he was pronounced dead. Santiago and Jose Castillo were taken to Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie and treated for injuries that the Sheriff’s Office said were not lifethreatening.
The Sheriff’s Office said Steere was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Santiago Castillo was driving without a license and had a forged Pennsylvania license in his possession, the Sheriff’s Office said. After being released from the hospital, he was charged with the felony of possession of a forged instrument and the infraction of unlicensed driving.
He was released with a ticket to appear in LaGrange Town Court.
